Ralph

When I find a problem like this, I first try to find the family in the 1900, 1910, and 1920 censuses, as
they give the most immigration information, and the 1900 has month and year for birth. I should caution
you that I find the year of birth off by a year as often as not. I think some of the enumerators took a
shortcut, as in "what month were you born?" and "how old are you", rather than "what month and year were
you born."

I found a family mostly fitting the description in 1900 and 1910, but not in 1920:

Year: 1900; Census Place: Nanticoke, Luzerne, Pennsylvania; Roll: T623 1433; Page: 6A; Enumeration
District: 96.
128 West Broad Street
1-4/111 Kunkle John head w m June 1845 54 m 25 Germany GER GER, immigrated 1883, in US 17 years,
Naturalized, day laborer
Minnie wife w f Mar 1855 45 m 25 12/8 Germany GER GER 1883 17
Otilla daughter w f mar 1879 21 s Germany GER GER 1883 17
Edward son w m 1883 16 s PA GER GER Door tender
Eugene son w m Oct 1885 14 S PA GER GER slate picker
Laura Daughter w f Dec 1887 12 s PA GER GER at school
Edith dau w f Dec 1889 10 s PA GER GER at school
Lydia daughter w f July 1892 7 s PA GER GER at school

1910 same information, except Minnie has borne 8 children, 8 of whom are living, and the date of
immigration is 1890. Probably got this wrong, and the date of naturalization was 1890. John does something
in a coal mine,Laura is a telephone operator for the Telephone Co, Edith and Lydia are laundresses.

I tried Michigan for the 1920, but didn't find them. Perhaps someone else will have better luck. If we
knew who Otilla married, we might find the information through her. Of course this wasn't the only Kunkle
family,

Pat (in Tucson)

|Need help in finding exact dates of birth for John and
|Wilhemina KUNKLE , b.1845 and 1851 respectively. They lived in
|Nanicoke, Pa, but don't have date of immigration from Germany,
|or passenger ship listing. They both died in Detroit, MI. in
|1943 and 1923 respectively.
