Subject: [ROOTS-L] Tintypes

I have acquired six small (about 2" X 3")19th century tintypes of members of my maternal
grandfather's family members. I would like to include these images in the book I am writing,
but they are dark and do not scan well. (They come out almost black) Can anyone advise
me how to proceed, either using photo software or a photo business which could make these
alterations for me?
