Subject: [ROOTS-L] lost family in the 1880 census

you will understand why I have trouble with these people when I tell you
that my McEvoy's are written as Mcaboey in the 1860 and McElvoy in the 1870,
and William is listed as a McAvoy and Mary as a McAvay in the Shelby Co.
death list, and Elizabeth is found variously as McEvoy, McAvoy and McElvoy,
but try as I may, they do not show up in the 1880-one wonders if the whole
family, recently without a wife and mother, hopped a boat to Ireland and
then returned to show up in the 1900.

Patrick McEvoy may have d. between 1875 and 1880. he is not recorded in
Shelby Co. deaths. his wife, Mary Whelan McEvoy, does. the family is in
Cynthian, Shelby, Ohio in 1870, and apparently in Van Buren, Shelby, Ohio in
1875, as that is the residence given for little William and Mary on the
death list.
he has children, some of which are underage in 1880....all were born in
Ohio, some in Coshocton Co., some in Shelby Co.

Mary aged 27 b. abt 1853
Eliza aged 25 b. 21 Aug 1854 and newly m. to Peter Ledwedge in 1880
Anna aged 22 b. abt 1857
Frank aged 20 b. Dec 1859
Margaret aged 17 b. abt 1863
William d. young
Peter aged 13 b. abt 1867
May aged 11 b. abt 1869

two of these girls, I'm not sure which, joined the Order of Precious Blood
and died in Maria Stein.

I have tried to find these children with and without their last names,
soundexed and exact spelling, McEvoy, Mc Evoy, Evoy, MacEvoy, all with
soundex, in and out of specific counties, with and without birth dates and
places, but nothing shows up-nor do Elizabeth and Peter Ledwedge by any
variation. the whole family simply disappears. I can't imagine inviting your
family on the honeymoon, so that's not likely, but where did everyone go?

can someone look and see if they can find them?
thank you for your help.
Cornelia
