Subject: [ROOTS-L] HARRISON CO, KY MARRIAGE INDEX

Hello, Rooters! I don't know if very many on this list are already
aware that there is an every name, bride and groom, marriage index at
www.harrisoncountyky.us/marriages.

Three marriage indexes, General Cross Index to Marriages 1 (1794-1893),
General Index to Marriages 2 (1894-1947), and the General Cross Index to
Marriages (Colored) (1866-1949) have been transcribed, alphabetized and
made into every name indexes of marriages for the first 155 years of
Harrison County history.

Of course, if you have Harrison County ancestors, these should be of a
great help to anyone researching in the county, but they may be of use
to those who have ancestors from neighboring counties such as Bourbon,
Scott, Nicholas, Robertson, Pendleton, & Grant Counties. It was the law
for many a year in Kentucky that license should be obtained in the
county of the bride's residence, and so finding a marriage record in
Harrison County records may be one more clue to tracing a bride's
ancestry.

I hope you enjoy the site and find it useful. Each of the general
indexes has its own section, and so if your research spans the period of
the 1890s you will need to check both general indexes. The African
American online index includes references to help you find whatever
document exists for any African American marriage in the county. There
is an E-Z Guide to finding 19th century marriage records which can be
found through links at the home page that will help you to find marriage
records should you ever visit the court clerk's vault out on Oddville
Pike in Cynthiana, and instructions are also offered should you need to
order a marriage document from a distance.

If you know of other states - or simply counties within a state - with
Marriage Indices on-line, please share your knowledge with the rst of
us. Illinois has such an index on-line, by county. Just plug in -
with any search engine - Illinois Statewide Marriage Index.

Good luck in your rooting and searches! Shirley: bobert@i-1.net
