Subject: [ROOTS-L] Social Security Question

Hello All, I posted a few weeks ago about getting my great-grandmother's social security application.  Well, it came in the mail today which I was excited about.

Now, I have another question and please forgive my ignorance.

Is this social security application what she filled out to start receiving her checks or is this what she filled out to get her number?

She was only 45 when she filled out this application and the date on the application is March 6, 1944.

I am thinking that Social Security had just come into being and she was filling out this application to get her ss# not to start receiving checks as she would be too young?

Any thoughts from you experts would be great!!
