Subject: [ROOTS-L] I Remember Momma

                             I REMEMBER MOMMA
Today is the fourth Aniversary of My Mothers Death. I will always miss her. I know she is in a better place, where there is no suffering and pain. Mother always had a smile on her face. She loved helping anyone. She loved feeling needed. She was very happy on this earth.
But there is more than one place that needs help and on April 20, 2002 my mother exepted Gods calling her home.

THE NINTH GENERATION OF THE HOLLIDAY FAMILIES
Hazel Helena Holliday, born March 28, 1914, NW of El Reno, Oklahoma, oldest child of Orval Kay Holliday (Holladay) and Daisy Frances Ward; married January 24, 1932, in the Parsonage of the First Methodist Church, El Reno, Okla., Jacob Adam (Jake) Odle, born November 28, 1906, Ingles, Grey County, Kansas, died Feb. 21, 1980, in his home from the flu, buried in the Yukon, Okla. Cemetery; a son of Silas Odle and Adde Eliza Tice. Hazel's favorite flower, the lilac, that blooms on her birthday some years. Her mother always brought her a bouquet of lilac's on her birthday. Her favorite meal, fish dinner at " Long John Silvers Restaurant."
In April 27, 1996, Paul Odle took his mother Hazel Helena Holliday Odle, to the Yukon, Okla. High School Alumni Banquet, it was moms 65th class re- union. Hazel Holliday Odle, my mother, was a straight " A " student in school, she graduated from Yukon High School, Yukon, Okla., Class of 1931, she had cold black hair and brown eyes and many people in Yukon told her she was" the prettiest girl in town." Mother loves people, and she loves to talk to them. She enjoys talking to people on the telephone for hours. Mom likes to listen to her scanner and keep up with all the happenings in Yukon. She likes to go to the Senior Citizens on Thursday, and play dominoes, pitch cards, and to visit with the friends she grew up with. She enjoys eating there and getting her weight and blood-pressure taken.
My mother is a good cook, she can make something good to eat out of nothing, she lived through the great depression , when people were lucky to have anything to eat. Mom is proud of the fact that she survived all of her life with-out ever having to be on well-fare. When I was growing up my mother made bread everyday, she raised a big garden every year and caned everything, as did her mother and mother-in-law. Mom didn't waste anything. When she was in school, she could whip any boy in her school. Mother was a riveter at Lockheed Aircraft in Los Angeles, Calif. during WW11. After we moved back to Yukon, after the war, mother work as a waitress at Newkirks cafe, The Yukon Grill and as Manager of the Snack Bar in Conrad-Marr drug store. During the Korean war and the Vietnam Wars, any service man that came through town that was out of money, mother would give money to and buy their meal at the cafe. If someone came through town out of work and down on there luck, mom would
bring them to our home and they could stay as long as they needed . My mother took care of her mother Daisy Ward Holliday, the last four years of her life. My mother is 85 years old now and is still helping her kids and grandchildren , sharing her home, money and food with them. And most of them make far more money than my mother ever dreamed of earning. Mother has always been cash and carry, if you don't have the cash you don't carry!
