There are lots of BARNES in Farmington,CT. I would contact the Congregational churches in or near Canaan regarding the HARTs because frequently people had their children baptized within the first few months of life even if the births were not recorded in the town records. I would also look through HART and ROOT/ROOD wills, letters of administration, and land records in the towns of interest to see if these give family relationships that shed light on the overall picture. Have you contacted area historical societies for information that might be in their correspondence files? There are entries for a ROOT & unnamed BARNES on Rootsweb's WorldConnect, but I don't see sources offered, so I would not take what is there too seriously unless you can find some way to verify what is posted. I found no verification in Barbour for anything I checked, though obviously I was not very comprehensive in what I could check in a few minutes. I did find Enoch Root b. 4-7-1743 in CT and died 1-17-1827 in CT who married Hannah Cory and __?__ BARNES in the 2003 DAR Patriot Index p. 2307. I don't know if this was an older or more recent submission. The more recent submissions require more detailed proofs.
