Our American ancestor spelled his name 'Rhodes' and complained his father would not add the 'E' but these spellings do not stand up for immi- grants. Thus my question is how many actual German surnames would evolve into 'Rhods' when spelled by a phonetic- spelling PA records taker in the 1840's or1850's ?
