My husband was working in a defense plant when WW II broke out and he
had a deferment. He did, however, have to register for the draft,
but after a few months he decided he'd go into the Navy instead of
perhaps later being drafted into the Army if the Gov't. decided to
change the deferment. I think all the men called up thru the draft
went into the Army and he wanted the Navy so enlisted.
