Subject: [ROOTS-L] Re: a census question

Hellp Phil,
You probably got no response because there were very few censuses done
in 19th Century Germany so there's not much to report. You could go to
the Family History Library Catalog and do a place search for Hessen.
Then look for the census topic - you will find very little.

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp

For more info see the census section here...

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/rg/guide/Germany6.asp

"Censuses were not taken nationally in Germany and therefore exist for
only a limited number of places and times."

Good luck with your search.

Regards,
Joe
