Subject: [ROOTS-L] World War I Draft Cards

If your person enlisted into the military service in WWI, he would very
likely not have registered for the draft. His service record was deposited
at the National Personnel Record Center in St Louis, MO. In 1973 a major
fire destroyed most of these records but it never hurts to write and ask.
You can go to:
http://archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/get-service-records.ht
ml
Search for the FORM 180 and complete to mail to them. If you are a child,
spouse, or nearest relative they will respond freely.
If the soldier returned to his hometown he would have recorded his discharge
in the county courthouse and that will be a good source and available upon
request. This is not the DD-214 but rather a discharge.
