Wow...
If my post nearly drove you off the the list you must lead a very
sheltered life, or you have the thinnest skin ever. There was absolutely
nothing nasty about it.-and several people posted agreeing with me. I was
simply giving the poster some advice on how to get a better response to
their query. Almost no one likes being screamed at and most people find
anything written in all caps to be very very hard to read. Also, these
lists generate copious amounts of mail and I think it's safe to say that
most researchers only open posts related to the surnames they are
researching. Therefore a vague subject line like "Look up" is very apt to be
deleted and/or ignored. My post was meant to help the person, nothing more.

Too many people post queries with hardly any info (i.e. "Looking for John
Smith from London" or "Can someone give me information on my great
grandfather who lived in Indiana") which makes giving an answer pretty much
impossible, or use vague subject lines (or even worse, none at all). This
type of carelessness will just make their research more difficult and
frustrating for them. I don't care about a person's grammar or spelling and
have never said anything about it.. However, I've seen many posts like mine,
asking people to use clearer subject lines, be as detailed as possible, etc,
and sadly they are almost always ignored, despite the fact doing so would
probably get them a lot more replies and info.

For the record, I am legally blind in one eye. I have a friend who is
completely legally blind and must use a special lense to use her computer.
Neither of us type in all caps as we find it makes things even harder to
read.

Sue
