|However, of those of you who might be new to ROOTS or have
|forgotten about
|them, the Minnesota Historical Society has great Birth and
|Death records
|online also. Their Search Engine is one of the best I have seen.
|
|They will even search for obits for you. Last I checked the
|were $12 for a
|Minnesota resident and $15 for everyone else. I asked for one
|about a year ago
|and they were very fast and efficient PLUS they sent me three
|articles about
|the person I was interested in. Thought that they went above
|and beyond in
|finding the three.

It is possible that they had a "vertical file" on folks. I ran into this quite by accident when I had a
list of obits to find in the Honolulu papers. Being from out of town, I had used the Library of Hawaii
website as much as possible, then went to the "newspaper archives" in the basement, used the index books,
searched the microfilm, got the obits. All was fine.

On the way out, I happened to stop by the vertical files (file cabinets with files and misc. ephemera in
them) to see what was there. Of course, several of the people were represented, with both the obituary and
whatever other news articles and other information they had. Jackpot!

Would have saved much time, if I had gone there first!

Now, I know. Whether in a historical society, library, or ??? Always check to see if there are vertical
files on the town citizens.

OH, and leave behind a brief note and your address/phone number. You never know when another cousin will
happen by!
