I was trying to find some Alexander Streets for you, and failed.

However, I went to the original image and have a different interpretation.

I think he was going to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The person who was meeting him, or whom he was
meeting, was his brother, perhaps "Max".

Now, for all the good that did, Wilkes-Barre has an Alexander Street, where I did find people living in
the 1910, but in the 1900 it looks as though the enumerator didn't choose to put down the street names.
There were several surnames that matched, but no "Max."

Also on the manifest, you will see above August, one Kasimir Kuipownicisz (excuse the spelling, there may
be a way to clarify that.

He is 22, also from Lessi, and going to Wilkes-Barre, meeting his cousin Kasmir Lansdorf (or similar). By
the way, the Ellis Island says they are from "Sotri" But it sure looks like "Lessi" to me. Not that I know
anything about Poland, and since the Polish alphabet is not anglicized very well, who knows what it realy
is.

Anyway, I was unable to get farther with the census, and have to leave now, so I wish you the best of luck
with this.

Pat (in Tucson)

|Subject: [ROOTS-L] Locating an residence in the 1900 Census
|
|
|I found a passenger listing for my grandfather, August
|Saikowsky (Zajkowski), age 18, stating that he was to meet a
|relative, Mrs.
|Saikowsky, at 539 Alexander something or other. This is for
|the SS Palatia into the port of NY in June of 1900. I am assuming
|this Alexander residence is in NYC someplace. How does one
|find a residence given a street address in the 1900 NY census?
| This would be a new lead as it was previously believed that
|my grandfather was the only one to come to America so a
|reference of him meeting an established relative is intriguing.
|
|Thanks in advance for any assistance provided.
