Subject: [ROOTS-L] RE: Marian's Census Purchase Question
Sender: roots-in@roots-l.rootsweb.com

Marian

There are several ways to "buy" the census, depending on the format you need (i.e., do you need microfilm?
Or digital cds?)

But my question would be why do you want to buy the census. Just a guess, but I'd say it would cost you
several thousand dollars.

I just checked HeritageQuest, a single roll on cd is $19.95, on film it is five or so dollars more. And,
of course, you'd have to know just which rolls you need, which requires some sort of indexing system.

A much less expensive method would be to

(a) check out your local library to see if they have a subscription to HeritageQuest.

(b) Consider a subscription to Ancestry.com.

The library has the least direct cost (we pay for it through our taxes), Ancestry.com costs more, but is
cheaper than gas, perhaps. <G>

Another alternative, which you may have already considered, is a local Family History Center, operated by
the LDS (Mormon) church, where all this is available for the cost of the gas.

Tell us more, and perhaps we have more advice.

Pat (in Tucson)
