The way I understood it, was that the Social Security Department would not
make corrections on the death index, but you can go to the "tools" column and
click on "add Post-em" and make a note about your correction. That way an
interested party would have the information and a contact person.

AND, here is more info that may help:

Deaths of U.S. Citizens in Foreign Countries Found in the Social Security
Death Index
Unless there is an error, generally when a US citizen who died in a foreign
country is found in the Social Security Death Index, the last residence
category will show a code in this format: XX123. This code represents a consulate
where the death was reported. Example -- "Last Residence: XX846 (U.S.
Consulate: SWITZERLAND (BERN))." This person was living in Switzerland when he or
she died. To obtain a death record try links above. For information on the
Social Security Death Index see... Social Security Death Index - Search Online

Reports of Deaths of U.S. Citizens in Foreign Countries National Archives
Information (for deaths before 1975)
Consular Reports of Birth, Death & Marriage on File with the Deparment of
State (for deaths 1975 and later)
