The thing that I get most irritated about is having Ancestry.com continually send me emails which I consider spam.. They are constantly sending email with subject of Dalrymples to America passenger lists. or Dalrymples Famous people...or other such supposedly IMPORTANT Dalrymple information. Which by the way either I or my sister-in law or a cousin have already sent to GED-Com or some other informational website. I want to bite 'em off and chew 'em up and spit 'em in the john.

I know why they charge fees for their services -- not
just because they're being nice guys gathering online
info for researchers, but also because there's a

online services have done.
I wouldn't mind paying a reasonable fee fro
Ancestry.com, but I feel they lock you into paying for
much more than most of us will ever use. Maybe they
should consider a small annual fee with small extra
charges for certain kinds of information -- kind of a
pay as you go basis, not an automatic credit card
charge every year whether you want it or not.
Also, I'm sure you and your friends have been
following the flow of comments, which you have the
opportunity to treat as some possible changes in the
way you do business, or simply ignore and go on your
merry way. I think all that needs to be said is right
there for all to see.

Ken I do not work for or own stock in Ancestry. I am a volunteer. I do not
have any special pull with the company. Like it has been pointed out by myself
and others, NOTHING is free. No one is forcing you to pay Ancestry. I pointed
out many free resources to you as did plenty of others on the ROOTS List.

It is up to you whether or not you choose to use them. Also NONE of the
others who have commented are PAID STAFF by Ancestry. We are ALL Volunteers and
researching our own families.

I think you are very misguided in your thinking. Ancestry is a business.
Rootsweb is NOT. Ancestry bought Rootsweb when they could not continue to function
online by donations alone. Ancestry alotts a portion of the business income
to support Rootsweb so that it can remain a FREE site. If you do research the
old fashioned way (not online) it will cost you MANY more dollars per year than
you will ever spend at Ancestry.

So I have had my say and now am done with it.
