Town clerks have kept birth, marriage, and death records since 1760. The records before 1800 are incomplete. The original records are in the office of the town clerk, and copies have been sent to the state. State Records. Many of the existing town records have been indexed alphabetically for the entire state. 1760-1870 on 287 films 1871-1908 on 120 films The Vital Records Office will search these indexes for a fee. This office also has a third index to town records covering the period 1908 to 1954.
