LIBRARY PUBLISHES GUIDE TO AFRO-AMERICAN GENEALOGY The Library of Congress has just published a list of sources for Afro-American genealogical research which appropriately coincides with Black History Month. Compiled by Sandra M. Lawson, of the Library's General Reading Rooms Division, "Generations Past, A Selected List of Sources for Afro-American Genealogical Research" is an introductory guide to selected material in the collections of the Library of Congress that should be especially useful to those interested in researching Afro-American lineages. The bibliographic entries cover guidebooks, bibliographies, local histories, city directories, and other works pertaining to lesser-known individuals of the 19th century. These are arranged in sections headed by brief essays on various kinds of sources. One long section lists entries under major family names, and another under the 50 states. Suggestions for additional research possibilities abound throughout the 101-page, illustrated book. "Generations Past, A Selected List of Sources for AfroAmerican Genealogical Research" (Washington, D.C., Library of Congress, 1988. vi + 101 p. LC call no. Z1361.N39L34) is available for $4.50 from the Superintendent of Documents, Government Printing Office, Washington, DC 20402. (Cite stock number 030-001-00126-1 when ordering.)
