>> From: Bill Green WHO IS DELPHI? DELPHI is one of the top 5 consumer online services (the other four are Prodigy, CompuServe, GEnie, and America Online.) DELPHI was started in 1982 and now includes members in over 40 countries. DELPHI is the first major online service to offer a full connection to the Internet. DELPHI has been featured in recent articles appearing in PC Magazine, Computer Shopper, Online Access, the Wall Street Journal, and several other magazines. DELPHI is a service of General Videotex Corporation which is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The large majority of DELPHI's services are available at the standard access rates. Some services that carry a surcharge are stock quotes, News-a-tron stock market reports, SOS Stock Option reports, FAX, Telex, Translation services, and the "Graphics Gallery" -- a collection of proprietary graphic images available to download. It's also important to remember that access during business hours costs extra when you use Tymnet or SprintNet (unless you live near Boston or access DELPHI through the Internet you are probably using Tymnet or Sprintnet). See the Rates section for more details. Membership Plans All DELPHI members have two membership options -- the 10/4 Plan and the 20/20 Advantage Plan. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 10/4 Plan -- $10 per month Includes first 4 hours of use each month. Additional use is $4 per hour (actually billed as 6.6 cents per minute).* 20/20 Advantage Plan -- $20 per month Includes first 20 hours of use each month. Additional use is $1.80 per hour. One-time enrollment fee of $19 (discounted if chosen during the first month). * Telecom charges apply for some methods of connecting to DELPHI from your local area (see below). Airline Reservations News & Information Services Car Rentals Special Services Communications Tours Cruises VIP Club (discounts) Hotels WHAT'S THE CATCH ON DELPHI'S 5 HOUR FREE TRIAL? Actually there are two catches: 1) You should keep in mind that your will automatically be enrolled in DELPHI's 10/4 Plan at the end of the calendar month. If you don't want to continue as a member, you need to specifically cancel before the end of the calendar month to avoid being charged a monthly fee for the following month. You can cancel by sending e-mail to SERVICE (SERVICE@delphi.com for Internet users) or calling 617-491-3393. 2) You need to have a credit card. This might sound strange for a free offer, and it's something that we would like to change, but right now the reality is we cannot prevent you from using more than 5 hours or using services that cost extra such as FAX, investment reports, and daytime access. Since we don't talk to you or meet you before allowing you on to DELPHI, a credit card is the only reasonable way to validate your account and to prevent "hackers" from abusing the free offer.
